The most impressive and comprehensive of these parking options is the Metro-North Railroad’s new parking lot on Hudson Street. This large, new parking lot was designed to improve the Ossining train station’s image while also providing additional commuter parking.

In addition, the Ossining Waterfront Access & Trail Plan has included several innovative pedestrian and bike-related features. A great place to also visit is Croton Gorge Park.

Location

The Louis Engel Waterfront Park lies on the south shore of the Hudson River at Ossining, New York. The Village’s waterfront has functioned as a place for trade and commerce, a recreational area, and an industrial center.

Access, railroad station parking, and appropriate redevelopment are all major issues facing this section of Ossining’s waterfront. These issues can be addressed through several solutions.

Public Access:

While the majority of land within Ossining’s waterfront is separated from the river by the railroad, there are some exceptions. These areas are the Louis Engel Park and Sparta Dock Parks, along with a small industrial area west of the tracks.

These sites can be easily accessed by vehicular bridges and are not isolated from the river by the railroad.

The Village believes that it must provide alternate access to these sites and that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has a responsibility to facilitate this type of access. This is also in keeping with the Ossining Waterfront & Trail Plan, which includes an emphasis on pedestrian access.

Directions

Located outside the walls of Sing Sing Correctional Facility in the Old Village neighborhood, Louis Engel Waterfront Park is one of the best spots in Ossining to enjoy the view of the Hudson River. The park includes paved paths for walking, benches, picnic tables, a playground, and restrooms.

This section of the waterfront has a long history of being used for trade, commerce, and recreational activities. The area consists of three miles of land with some of the most beautiful views in all of the Hudson.

The area is divided into a central section that runs north from 47 Hudson Street (the former Testwell Craig site), Sing Sing Correctional Facility, and Westchester County Sewage Treatment Facilities to Snowden Park and a small area along the shore of the river. It contains residential, mixed-use, and a variety of commercial properties.

This area is also home to the 0.6-mile section of land west of the railroad tracks that consists of Louis Engel Waterfront Park, private marinas, and a small industry. This is the only land west of the tracks that can be easily and safely accessed by the public. Browse the next article.
