5 Resources for Westchester County School Rankings

One of the key facets often considered by my buyers when shopping for homes in Westchester County is the quality of schools in different towns. However, gathering this information can often be difficult for two reasons. First, it is illegal in New York State for a Realtor to comment on school rankings or reputations. Second, you often get slanted and biased recommendations from residents you may know or meet.

So what are the best resources available to research Westchester School Districts?

  1. The Great! Schools website allows you to search for schools in a given city, zip code, or even state. The site assigns schools a rating between 1 and 10. You can also see reviews of a given school from others in the community. The website collects data about everything from test scores to a school’s arts and sports programs. Great! Schools collect information about public, private, and charter schools.

  2. Public School Review lists all of the public schools in the region. This site shows information about the number of schools in the area, diversity, and student-to-teacher ratios. The site makes it easy to compare schools side-by-side. Each school page offers a wealth of data including how schools compare academically with other schools in the area

  3. In addition to academics, student-teacher ratios, and diversity, Private School Review also provides information about acceptance rates, financial costs, and admissions. In addition to school comparisons, you can also find contact information summaries about what makes the school unique.

  4. If you are simply interested in a ranking of high schools, U.S. News & World Report ranks High Schools across the nation every year. You can also look at individual school districts in each state. However, if you need an idea of what the top high schools in Westchester County are, this list is a great first stop.

  5. Niche has an easy-to-use interface that offers statistics about the diversity and academics of schools in a given zip code. The sites give each school a letter grade in a variety of different areas such as diversity, teachers, and academics. Niche also ranks the best elementary schools in New York.
